 SEPTEMBER 2022

Well, it's that special time of the year when there's a nip in the air and the children are all back in school AND it's time for the Lockport College Women's Club to meet again. So welcome!!! Our first meeting will be Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held at Harrison Place. We will be meeting Jason Dittley and touring his coffee roastery at True Bean Coffee. He is a formally trained coffee roaster who currently roasts coffees for 15 coffee shops in Western New York. We will have a surprise dessert prepared by his wife, Jessica, who is a caterer and the former owner of Cream and Sugar. She is a working mom with four children and is the former director of Lockport Main Street Association. We will obviously also have coffee and tea to go with our dessert. The cost of the meeting is $8.00. Please call in your reservation to the telephone committee by October 2, 2022, at 7:00 PM. Hostesses are Mary Beth Caswell and Ann O'Bryne

Please note that there is a new member of the Telephone Committee - Michelle Gilbert and her number is 433-6739. She is replacing Nancy Coons. If you formerly called Nancy, please call Michelle Gilbert. We welcome her to the committee and appreciate the help.

Please note that this meeting is at Harrison Place. The entrance that we need to us is off Walnut Street right across from Elm Street. There is an archway leading to a parking lot which is located in front of the entrance door that you will use. There will be signs and people standing by to direct you to the meeting room. As programs are planned in advance, we had no idea that the sidewalks on both Washburn Street and South Street would be under construction. At this time, the only access to Harrison Place is off Walnut Street. It is also important to note that our meeting will take place upstairs at Harrison Place. There are two flights of stairs to the meeting room. Due to construction, the elevator is unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience.

You can bring your annual dues to the meeting. Remember that dues at $40.00 through December and will be $50.00 after that. Dues can also be mailed to Anna Beth Kinyon, 117 Windermere Road, Lockport, New York 14094

It was such a pleasure to meet our two scholarship winners at the May Banquet. Tessa Bonanno will be studying Psychology at SUC Fredonia, and Bryann Simpson will be studying nursing at the SUNY at Buffalo. Congratulations to both!

It was also our pleasure to honor four 25-year members, Nancy Coons, Karen Robinson, Michele Gilbert and Kim Meal. All received their pins. All expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the valuable service that the Club provides to the young women of Lockport. We also honored three 50-year members - Mary Carol Marotta, Ida Quade, and Loraine Sparks. All three were grateful for the friendships formed and contributing to our young women with scholarships. Ginni Paulin and Shirley Wagner were also honored, but unable to attend the Banquet. Ginni relayed to us by telephone that she fondly recalls making bird cage centerpieces for a meeting at Shirley Wagner's home. The last 50-year member was Naomi Dice from last year. Gail Marshall had delivered flowers and a thank you card to her at Heritage Manor. We are sorry to say that Naomi has passed away earlier this year. We value all our hard-working members and for their contributions over the years!

Our fundraiser basket raffle totaled $1,260.00 and we also received donations of $2,155.00. The total profit after deducting expenses of $332.50 was $3,082.50. Thank you so much to all members and friends that make our scholarship program a resounding success year after year.

At this time, there are 13 members who have yet to pay dues for the 2021-22 year. Please forward your dues of $50.00 to Anna Beth Kinyon, 117 Windermere Road, Lockport, NY 14094. If you are unsure of your status, please email Anna Beth at abkinyon@gmail.com and she will let you know.

PLEASE ADVISE JUDY JOHNSON OF ANY CHANGES TO YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS!

There are lots of leadership positions if anyone is interested in becoming more involved in the Club. It is a wonderful way to get to know people. We are always on the lookout for new members! So, ask a friend or family member to a meeting! Club membership is simple - pay dues, support the Scholarship fundraiser, and attend two meetings per year! And hear lots of interesting programs.

The next Board of Directors meeting will be held on June 9, 2022, at 7:00 PM at the home of Patty Russell, 102 Continental Drive, Lockport, New York. Please contact Patty if you are unable to attend.
