MEGAPHONE  DECEMBER 2012

We’ll be welcoming the Christmas Season with song at 7 PM on
Thursday, December 6, when Lockport’s favorite pianist KEVIN CLARK will entertain and play as we sing the old familiar songs.
We’ll meet at the Lockport Town & Country Club for festive desserts and the last chance to get-together until February, 2013.  THERE IS NO MEETING IN JANUARY.
Cost is $12, with reservations with your telephone lady by 8 PM on Sunday, December 2.  Or, you may e-mail Sue (smgrigg@aol.com)  or

Nancy Coons.

REMINDER: Dues of $40 may be paid at the December meeting, or mailed to Treasurer Ann VanDusen- 40 Lakeview Pkwy.; Lockport, NY  14094.
After December 31st, dues for the current year go up to $50, so be aware!

FLASHBACK: The November meeting ably handled by hostesses Cherlyn Willett and Mary Beth Caswell, featured speakers Shirley Britten and her daughter Kate. They cited the need for volunteers and donations at Lockport Cares. The house on Genesee Street, run by volunteers, is a temporary shelter for homeless and hungry men, women, and children. To help with ongoing needs, College Club members donated toiletry items and some gently-used winter things such as mittens. At the meeting, we expressed our sorrow at the passing of Shirley Chrzanowski, a member since 1976.

FOR THE FUTURE: Remembering the financial success of the basket raffle, please collect assorted new items for this year’s baskets at the April 14, 2013, fundraiser. Call ahead and drop them off at Rosemary Dever’s- 6864 East High St.  or Pat Kennedy’s-126 Windermere Rd. - our very creative gals who will give them the finishing touches.

NEEDS:  Greet your friends in College Club early and become a hostess at a meeting. Only requirement is being in place a half-hour before the meeting begins. Name tags, etc, provided. Call Anna Beth Kinyon (434-5868)

     In case you missed it, our October meeting was fascinating, with Nancy Knechtel, NCCC professor, giving us an insider’s view of three artists’ lives and works. Newest member Marion Hannigan was introduced. The hostesses were Peggy D’Amato and Rosemary Dever.

October Meeting 2012

Welcome back to a new year for Lockport College Women's Club. Our October meeting will be held on October 4, 2012 at the Lockport Town and Country Club. This will be a dessert meeting. Coffee, tea and a selection of desserts will be offered for a cost of $ 12.00. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm.

Welcome back (by popular demand) to our speaker Nancy Knechtel, award winning professor and Coordinator of Fine Arts at Niagara County Community College. As her presentation last year was so well-received by our members, she has agreed to return to LCWC. Her topic will be "On Location: a look at the Wyeths, Georgia OKeefe, and how the land they lived on influenced their art".

There will be a new Directory this year. If you have any changes to your information and/or have not been contacted by the telephone committee, please call Dee Morotchie at 434-9892.

LOCKPORT COLLEGE WOMEN’S CLUB THE MEGAPHONE – JUNE 2012 Our FINAL meeting until October will be at the Lockport Town & Country Club with its yummy bevy of desserts at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, with a speaker to stimulate you intellectually, Formerly with UB’s Educational Opportunity Center, Dr. Barbara Seals Nevergold , is the winner of several awards and is currently the co-director of Uncrowned Queens Institute for Research and Education on Women and an instructor at Empire State College. Cost of the dessert buffet will be $12. Hostesses are Nancy Coons and Karen Robison. Call your telephone gal by 9p.m. Sunday, June 3. Honorees in June will be: Charlotte Lasher, a 50-year member, and Linda Fraser, 25 years. Honored at the May Banquet were Isabelle Murphy, 50 years, and Judy Johnson Paonessa, 25 years. Amelia Sommer was recognized for 50 years, but was unable to attend. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - -- -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - At the banquet, we congratulated our scholarship winner Kelsey Stanley and her mother Chris. Kelsey plans duo-majors of linguistics and astrophysics at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and wants to be with the FBI in the future! She ranks third in her Lockport High School class with a 101 average. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Treasurer Ann VanDusen has announced a profit of $4,300 from the luncheon fund-raiser. The basket raffle was a great success and was responsible for $1,345 of that amount. Don’t miss our next fact-filled meeting at 7 PM THURSDAY MARCH 1 at the Lockport Town & Country Club for dessert buffet or fruit plate, featuring Jim McGrath’s program, “GETTYSBURG”.
A historian and lecturer, he is a frequent visitor to the Civil War battlefields at Gettysburg and attends seminars related to wartime history.

At our March 1 meeting, the hostesses, Pat Kennedy and Rosemary Dever, (who also are our creative “basket ladies”) will tell us more about donating to the sale. We can create our own basket for the raffle, OR we can drop off new items, used baskets, ribbons, etc. at Rosemary’s house (6865 East High St.) and the committee will design exciting for-raffle baskets. *Call Rosemary at 434-9972 before leaving items.

- Your great response to the needs of sexual assault victims, has inspired the Board to ask for donations of toiletries for residents of
the YWCA’s Safe House at the March 1 meeting- toothbrushes, combs, deodorants, cologne, wipes – daily needs of ladies, etc.
- Let President Patty Russell know if you’d like to be a contact person for members who need transportation to meetings, or if you’d like to serve as an officer or committee member.
