MARCH 2014

To help overcome the winter blahs, come to the next meeting when we'll meet Chet Fery, an inspirational speaker and retired teacher with an upbeat message.  He uses 35 loaves of bread to accent the positive!
The dessert buffet will be at 7 pm Thursday, March 6, at the Lockport Town & Country Club. Hostesses will be Dolores Tracy and Mary Beth Caswell.  Please remember to make your reservation by 8pm Sunday, March 2. Guests are welcome!

From the Board of Directors:
Updating our Sunday, April 6 Fund-Raiser - about six weeks away, but there's still time to make a basket and to give or secure donations of goodies for INSIDE them. You'll receive letters/tickets/ more info, according to Judy Cummings. For “anything baskets”, contact Pat Kennedy or Rosemary Dever.  The chairman is Jeannine Benoit, who encourages you to bring a friend (or maybe 3?) to the big event.

So far, only two members have responded to the call for more involvement in College Club offices or committees, so the Telephone Committee will be calling you to encourage you to use your talents in big or small ways to help us.  President Patty Russell also is collecting ideas for future programs, so please put on your thinking caps.

At the February meeting, the Scholarship Committee recommended that we give one scholarship this year, at $1,000 for each of four years.

Mary Brennan-Taylor presented a most interesting program last time and graciously has donated her honorarium to the YWCA.

Condolences have been sent to families of members who have passed away – Dorothy Weir, a graduate of SUC Buffalo and a past president who joined in 1955, and Shirley Coulter, a graduate of Cornell University and a member since 1953.

The March meeting of the Board will be Thursday. March 13, at the home of Dee Morotchie, 95 Vermont. If you're interested in a committee or office, you might like to sit in to learn details. Just let Dee know if you're coming!

TOFFEE BARS – VALENTINE TREAT
Heat oven to 350. Line a jellyroll pan with foil and place 40 square soda crackers in it.
In a saucepan, bring to boil: 1 cup butter (NOT margarine) and 1 cup brown sugar.
Pour it evenly over the crackers and place in oven 3-5 minutes. (Crackers should get
“floaty”)
Remove from oven and sprinkle 6 oz. chocolate chips evenly over crackers. Wait
5 minutes and spread chocolate evenly. Cut while still warm. If too gooey, refrigerate to allow to cool before storing. Yummy – like candy!
