June 2016

Summer is coming and ice cream shops are open. Please join us on June 2 at 7:00 at the Lockport Town and Country Club to hear how lifelong friends Erik Bernardi and Jason Wulf began their adventures with Lake Effect artisan ice cream. They are both graduates of SUNY College at Buffalo and are teachers in the Lockport School District.  As it states on their website:” Lake Effect Artisan Ice Cream is Western New York's premier small batch artisan ice cream company. We create unique flavors that can't be found anywhere else. We partner with the remarkable amount of talent in our hometown to create amazing frozen creations with a Buffalo twist. Hostesses will be Charlotte Lasher and Mary Beth Caswell. Hope to see you there!

Sunday April 10 was “Sunday for Scholarship”, our annual fundraiser for our scholarship. A total profit of $4,072.28 was raised for our scholarships Lucille Cannata and Shirley Frombgen did a wonderful job putting the event together and would like your suggestions on how to improve the annual scholarship fundraiser. Please email any suggestions to Lucille Cannata, timer18@aol.com or to Shirley Frombgen, bsfrombgen@gmail.com. We appreciate your feedback.

The scholarship fund also received a donation from Leslie Mocha (Small Indulgences) of $90. Scholarship has also received a total of $275 in memory of Margaret Schomers and a generous donation from Jane Whitmore. These donations have made for many reasons whether to honor a member or in memory of one or to recognize the impact College Club has made to someone.

At the May banquet we had the pleasure of meeting Robyn Hammond and Sage Donovan, the recipients of this year’s scholarship. Robyn will be attending the University of Rochester and Sage will be attending Clarkson.

The telephone committee will be calling members to confirm addresses and phone numbers for the new directory. If you have a change, please let the phone committee know.

The next Board of Directors meeting will be held on June 9 at the home of Patty Russell 102 Continental Dr., Lockport at 7:00.

This will be the last Megaphone that I will put together. I would like to thank the members of the board, especially Monica Pullano and Patty Russell, who have helped with articles for publishing, and Shirley Wagner for mailing it out. As they say many hands make light work. It is my highest hope that someone will come forward to take over this position as I can no longer do it.
