Brenda Reaves from the Niagara County Historical
Society will portray Eliza Mossell, the wife of Aaron Mossell, a prominent
Lockport businessman who made a significant contribution to education when he
was successful in having his daughter admitted to an all-white school about 80 years
ago. His action made Lockport
an early leader in school integration.

The April Fund -Raiser was a great success, enriching our
coffers by $3975 according to Treasurer Ann Van Dusen with the basket auction
providing a good share. The Board thanks everyone for their hard work. If you
were unable to attend, donations for scholarships are still gratefully accepted
by Ann!

Our scholarship winner for 2013 is Katie Britt, who will
attend Penn State, studying to become an aerospace
engineer and maybe work for NASA! Fifth
in her class, she has a 100.6 average. The oldest of four children, Katie is
the daughter of Maurice Britt, a retired sheriff’s deputy and Colleen Britt, a
bank teller.
Our other scholarship students are: Kelsey Stanley;
Caroline Randall; Anna Robbins, and Lauren Currie
