NOVEMBER 2015

Our next meeting will be held on November 5, 2015 at the Lockport Town and Country Club at 7:00. Our presenter will be Melissa Niver who opened BLING! Boutique in the Bewley Building after transitioning from a career in educational administration.  She will share how she decided to go into business and the challenges and rewards for doing so. Melissa will also demonstrate the latest fashion accessory trends and provide an opportunity to get a head start on Christmas shopping. The cost of the meeting including dessert will be $12. Please make your reservations with the telephone committee by 7:00 on Sunday, November 1 and indicate your choice of dessert or fruit plate when you make your reservation. Our hostesses will be Ann O’Byrne and Mary Beth Caswell. Hope to see you there!

Anna Beth Kinyon, our treasurer will be collecting dues at the November meeting. Our dues remain at $40 if paid by December. A late fee of $10 will be applied after that. If you prefer you may mail your check to Anna Beth Kinyon, 117 Windermere, Lockport, NY 14094.

The directory has been updated and an insert sheet with the additions and corrections is included in this mailing. The corrections will also be emailed to the members on the email list.

The basket committee, headed by Rosemary Dever and Pat Kennedy, is looking for baskets, ribbon, cellophane, and filler.  They are also looking for new items to put in the baskets. It is never too early to start. Our fundraiser will be held on April 10. Lucille Cannata and Shirley Frombgen are heading up the effort.

Look for news concerning our club in the newspaper. Valerie Hamluk has volunteered to put publicity about our meetings and programs in the Lockport paper. We are also on Facebook thanks to Jeannine Benoit. If you are on Facebook be sure to “like” our page. 

The October Board of Directors meeting will be held on November 12 at the home of Monica Pullano, 43 Grasmere Rd, Lockport at 7:00.

Welcome to the 2015-16 year of Lockport College Women’s club. There are many exciting programs covering a variety of topics planned for the coming year. On October 1, 2015 we will welcome Michelle Bradley, Superintendent of the Lockport City Schools, who will speak to us about current, local educational issues. She will be answering questions at the end of her presentation. The meeting will begin at 7:00 and the cost of dessert will be $12. Please make your reservations with the telephone committee by 7:00 on Sunday, September 27 and indicate your choice of dessert or fruit plate when you make your reservation. Our hostesses will be Cathy Tobin and Marcia Jacobi. Hope to see you there!

We will be welcoming a new member in October! Darlene Laffredo will be introduced by Cherlyn Willet. If you know of anyone who might be interested in becoming a member, please see Jeannine Benoit for a membership card.

Esther Prudden, 99 years old, was recognized as a 50 year member with flowers at her home since she was not able to make it to the May banquet.

Books were donated over the summer to the Lockport Library in the memory of Mary Anne Buddenhagen and Jen Mullane.

June 2015

Our final meeting of the year will be held on June 4th at the Lockport Town and Country Club at 7:00. Our speaker will be Tom Mitchell, an expert horticulturist from NCCC. He will discuss ways to create beauty and plenty on patios and porches with flowers and vegetables in containers. He will include a slideshow with examples. Come and enjoy and get a few pointers on how to make your home more beautiful throughout the summer. Please make your reservations with the telephone committee by 7:00 on Sunday, May 31st and indicate your choice of dessert or fruit plate when you make your reservation.

Our hostesses will be Nancy Coons and Karen Robison. Hope to see you there!

At the May Banquet we enjoyed meeting the two recipients of our scholarships. They are delightful young women who will do our club proud. They are Lauren Isherwood, who will be attending John Carroll University, and Hailey Bechtold, who will attend Duquesne University. We wish them well in their studies! We also honored our 50 year members: Sandra Haber, Esther Prudden, Mary Beth Wilson, Mary Sy and Jean Mullane (posthumously). Our 25 year member, Mary Finn, was unable to attend and will be honored at the June meeting.

Our annual fundraiser was held on Sunday April 12 at the Lockport Town and Country Club. It was an enjoyable afternoon with musical entertainment provided by The Buffalo Dolls. They presented a lively program with many familiar songs that we could sing along to. The basket committee out did themselves once again with many lovely baskets. Thank you to all involved for their hard work to make this a success. Fundraiser income is as follows:

·        Tickets: 106 sold $4,585.00

·        Baskets: $1,881.00

·        Expenses: $ 2,853.38

·        Total Income to scholarship: $3,612.62

 The purpose of our club is to raise money to give as scholarships. This year we raised a total of $6,138.62 for scholarships. This money came from:

·        Fundraiser:$3,612.62

·        Donations in memory of Mary Anne Buddenhagen, Jean Mullane and miscellaneous gifts: $706

·        ½ of dues paid $1,820.00

Throughout the year members have moved or had telephone changes. Please notify Dee Morotchie with your changes as there will be an update insert for our directory next fall. The telephone committee will be contacting all of the members to confirm your information. There are still some directories that need to be picked up. They will be available at the June meeting. If you haven’t picked yours up, come to the June meeting!

We are looking for new members to be on the Board of Directors. Several positions will be available including but not limited to Megaphone and President. Please let one of the board members know if you are interested. It is a wonderful way to meet people and become more involved in the club.


The May Board of Directors meeting will be held on June11th at the home of Jeanine Benoit, 4226 Lake Ave, Lockport at 7:00.

May 2015
May is the exciting month when we meet the recipients of our scholarship for the year. This year we will be awarding two scholarships. Please come to meet the recipients on May 7th at the Lockport Town and Country Club. The dinner will begin at 7:00 with cheese and vegetable platters and a cash bar. Dinner choices are:
Pork Roulade - pork stuffed with spinach, sundried tomatoes, prosciutto, asiago, and breadcrumbs in a Madeira wine sauce;  
Vegetable Lasagna - seasonal vegetables, creamy béchamel sauce, fresh house made pasta;
8 oz. Prime Rib.

The cost of the banquet will be $27.00. Please make your reservations with the telephone committee by 7:00 on Sunday, May 3rd. Please indicate your meal choice when you make your reservation.
Our hostesses will be Gail Marshall and Anna Beth Kinyon. Hope to see you there!

March 2015

How did a young couple with advanced degrees and international living experience meet in California and end up acquiring a 100 acre farm in the City of Lockport?  Come to our meeting at the Lockport Town and Country Club March 5 at 7:00 to hear Bree Woodbridge share the amazing story of how she and husband, Rich, took on the challenge of modernizing his family's 1820s farm and 20 room farmhouse. Learn about the difficulties they faced and their hopes for a prosperous future. Once again, we have the opportunity to welcome a courageous young woman making a difference in Lockport, please join us! Remember to make your reservation by 8:00 on Sunday, March 1. When making your reservation please let your telephone committee member know if you would like the dessert or fruit. Also, Marybeth Wilson is out of town for March’s meeting. Please direct questions to Gail Marshall. Our hostesses will be Janice Litz and Pat Kennnedy.

If you have not picked up your new directory yet please try to come to the March meeting to pick it up. Some members have discontinued use of their land lines. If you have, please call Dee Morotchie at 434-9892 to let her know of your change in phone number.

At the February meeting the scholarship committee’s recommendation to award two scholarships if suitable candidates apply was approved.

Our annual fundraiser will be held on Sunday April 12 at the Lockport Town and Country Club with a luncheon and musical entertainment provided by The Buffalo Dolls. The basket committee would like completed baskets, gift cards or certificates, or new items for baskets delivered to Pat Kennedy’s or Rosemary Dever’s home by March 23. You may also drop them off at the March meeting. Tickets and more information will be mailed out shortly.



The March Board of Directors meeting will be held on March 12th at the home of Patricia Russell at 7:00.

Come meet Susan Geissler, sculptor, at our meeting on February 5, 2015 at 7:00 at the Lockport Town and Country Club. She is pictured above with “Freedom Crossing” which is located in Lewiston, NY. Other of her works are also on display locally as well as nationally and internationally. She is holder of over six dozen awards and prizes. Susan’s presentation promises to be lively with a touch of humor and includes a power point view of the process involved in turning a clay model into a finished bronze work. Everyone is encouraged to enjoy the workmanship in the various models she will bring to put on the display tables. She will welcome your questions and comments at the end of her presentation. Coffee, tea and a choice of a dessert or fruit plate will be offered for a cost of $ 12.00.  Please make your reservations with the telephone committee by Sunday Feb. 1 at 8:00PM.  The hostesses will be Michelle Gilbert and Kim Meal.

We will also be given the financial standing of the scholarship fund and will be approving the recommendations from the scholarship committee for this year’s awards.

Mary Anne Buddenhagen, a fifty year plus member, recently passed. She was active in LCWC right up to the end. We will miss her. Her family chose donations to LCWC’s scholarship fund in lieu of flowers. At this time we will accept any donations if you choose. Please send them to Daniel Priest, Scholarship Committee treasurer.


The amendment to our constitution was passed changing membership qualification to applicants who have a two year or a four degree from an accredited college. If you know someone who is interested in joining us, bring them to a meeting! 


The 2015 Fundraiser event will be held on Sunday, April 12 at the Lockport Town and Country Club from 12:00-3:00PM. Entertainment will be “The Buffalo Gals”. Please add this date to your calendars.

The basket committee is looking for things such as gift certificates or new items (not used) that would help fill baskets. They are looking for quality, not just quantity this year. Baskets already completed or empty are also welcome. You can bring these to the meeting. A table is being provided. The basket raffle is a significant part of our scholarship fundraiser. Please consider how you can help out our basket committee this year.
