 JUNE 2021

Hello College Club members! It has been a long time since we have been together. Our last meeting was in March of 2020 and then the pandemic changed everything. Hoping that our newsletter finds you happy and healthy. As I shared in the last newsletter, we will begin meeting again in October of 2021. The board of directors will meet in early September to discuss plans for the upcoming year. Look for your next Megaphone in September for details on our October meeting. We will have to get back in the habit of making our meeting reservations once again.

Our Scholarship Committee chairman is Megan Menges. The committee members are Margo Covell, Val Hamluk, Kim Meal, and Danielle Priest. The Scholarship Committee recommendation this year was to award one scholarship. Treasurer Danielle Priest shared the following financial report and list of our current recipients with the scholarship amounts owed to each individual. The young women who were seniors this year have received their final check.

Scholarship Treasury checking account balance - $573.10.

Scholarship Treasury money market account - $23, 722.80

Current Scholarship Award Winners

Rising Seniors — Riley Adams and Erin Haley - $1 ,OOO.OO each

Juniors — Madison Heburn and Lauren Dmochowski -$2,000.00 each Sophomores — Sara McIntyre and Katherine Miner - $3,000.00 each

Incoming freshman and this year's recipient - Katherine Luick-$4,000.00

Danielle Priest shared the following about our newest award winner.

Our scholarship winner for this year is Katherine Luick. Katherine has been active in Newspaper Club, Exchange Club and Student Council. As a two-year varsity swim captain and junior varsity basketball captain, she has learned (quoting Katherine) "that positivity and mental endurance are two big keys to success." She has received numerous honors for academic achievement. Kathryn will graduate 16th in a class of 315 with an average of 100.38. You may know Kathryn if you are a frequent customer of Lake Effect Ice Cream where she has worked the last two years.

Kathryn will be attending SUNY Oswego as a major in Psychology with a minor in Criminology. After receiving her Bachelor's in Psychology, she wants to go on and get a doctorate in Philosophy. Megan Menges shared this quote from Kate to be involved in research and testify in court for the criminally insane and to get people with mental disorders proper care instead of shoving them in jail."

Our warmest congratulations go to Kate as we acknowledge her hard work in high school and wish her all the best as she begins college in the fall.

Thank you also to our wonderful scholarship committee for all their efforts during these difficult times.

The officers, board of directors, and the scholarship committee would like to remind our members of the challenges the last year has presented to Lockport College Women's Club in its mission to provide scholarships for young women. Val Hamluk was kind enough to write the following for the newsletter.

With the COVID 19 pandemic, Lockport College Women's Club has missed two years of fundraisers. The Scholarship Fund is supported by two main sources: our annual fundraiser "Sunday for Scholarship" and one-half of our annual dues. Although we have been able to continue to offer our scholarship, only one award was presented this year. Some members have expressed an interest in making a

monetary donation to assist the scholarship fund since we were unable to host the annual fundraiser once again. If a member would like to support the scholarship fund directly, checks can be mailed to: Anna Beth Kinyon, 117 Windermere Road, Lockport, New York 14094. Please designate that the donation is for the scholarship fund. No amount is too small or too big. Our present and future recipients will put it to good use! Thank you for your consideration.

We are looking for a member who would like to join the board and assist Nancy Fischer in planning programs and speakers. Call either Nancy or Patty Russell.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again in October.

Enjoy your summer!

Patty Russell
